Unfortunately, the prewired prongs can dig into the cable, coming into contact with the copper wire.  Although those connectors are convenient, they could cause issues because they partially expose the wire, increasing the risk of water damage. To avoid that, electricians cut off the connector and expose about ½ inch of the wires.
